The Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach (IfD Allensbach), often referred to more simply as the "Allensbach Institute," was founded in 1947 by Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann (1916-2010). It is one of the most well-known and respected opinion and market research institutes in Germany today. Research by the Allensbach Institute covers the entire spectrum of survey research—in terms of both the topics investigated and methods used—ranging from social research to current political opinion research, from market research and media analyses to surveys for legal evidence. In addition to representative surveys of the total population, the Institute also conducts surveys among specific target groups, for example, certain segments of the population or professional groups, persons in key positions in different business sectors, company customers/employees and the readers of various newspapers and magazines. Although the Institute's primary emphasis is on face-to-face interviews, we offer telephone, online and postal surveys as well. Along with quantitative studies based on samples comprising up to 20,000 interviews, we also conduct qualitative studies based on depth interviews, which are completed using an interview guide, and focus group discussions.
